Whereas corn is a vegetable, but crucially not the only one. From my friend, Sara:

- A: Vegetable oil.
- Q: Could you check for me what kind of vegetable oil it is?
- A: Pure vegetable oil.
- Q: I mean what kind of vegetables is the oil made from? I would like to know because I'm allergic to corn.
- A: It's 100% vegetable oil.

Hmmm...
Walker's Crisps (I'm a Brit, that's chips to Americans) are a curious bunch. Their 'Cheese & Onion' crisps aren't vegetarian (animal-derived rennet for the cheese) whereas their 'Prawn Cocktail' ones are - since they've never seen a prawn in their entire existence, similarly for the bacon, beef and pretty much the rest of the range. Update, May 2004 - ye gads they've fixed it, after winning most coveted non-vegetarian food in a poll by VSoc UK.
